Main Street, U.S.A. is the first land when you enter the Magic Kingdom and is based on Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Missouri. The buildings have a bit more of a New England flair to them as well compared to Disneyland. The area is themed like a main street in an early 1900s American town. Walt was quoted saying

For those of us who remember the carefree time it recreates, Main Street will bring back happy memories. For younger visitors, it is an adventure in turning back the calendar to the days of their grandfather's youth.

[edit] Buildings on Main Street, U.S.A.

Main Street, U.S.A. has mainly stores and snack shops since guests both enter and exit through this area. Also, City Hall is the location of Guest Relations. The buildings on Main Street, U.S.A. use a forced perspective to make them look talker than they really are. This means the second floor is smaller than the first and the third is smaller than the second. The first floor of the buildings are 12 feet tall, the second floors are 10ft. tall and the third floors are 8ft. tall, making them 7/8ths scale. There are 16,742 sqft. of retail space on Main Street. In reality there are only 4 buildings but they are themed to look like many more than that.

The windows on Main Street are covered with logos which are actually a sort of 'credits' for many imagineers and others who have helped with the creation of the Magic Kingdom. Their names are usually painted in a way that also deal with a hobby or interest of theirs.
